Both of my dogs have diarrhea?

Posted by: Doctor | Comments (5)

We have two large dogs – and both have been suffering from severe diarrhea for a few days now. First Rex had it, and upon weighing him, it looks like he is down around 8lbs. Now Abbey has it. They are locked into the kitchen at night and when we get up there are pools of poo everywhere. We can’t afford the vet until the 1′st (which is really stressing me out!) and I feel so bad for them. I don’t know what to do. Please any advice until I can afford to get them into the vet. I also have two small children and I don’t want them to get sick.
Just a bit more info – Rex (lab/pointer) is 8 years. Abbey (shepherd/shar pei) 6 years. We lived in Ohio until recently when we moved to FL. It has been very hot here, and the dogs seem to take it okay. Rex drinks a lot of water. Abbey averages around 65lbs and Rexey tends to be overweight. His ideal weight is 75-78lbs. Both dogs have arthritis, Rexey has seasonal allergies and Abbey has skin issues lately (bald on belly/chest).

Hi
I am hoping that someone may be able to give me a bit of advice. My 14 month old has had bad diarrhea for 13 days now. I took her took the doctor after a week and they took a stool sample that came back as ok. She was still poorly so took her back a couple of days ago and all they said was it will take time for her to get over it and to keep her on bland food. They haven’t felt her tummy to see if they can feel anything untoward.

My daughter has had problems with her digestion from birth, she has been very constipated (sometimes going over a week between bowl movements. then tearing when she finally went). She was breast fed until 12 months. Recently we discovered she has a dairy intolerance so she has been on soya milk etc and been much better in general until a fortnight ago.

She is a real handful at the moment and unless she is holding on to me will scream and cry, this is totally out of character.

Have any of you ever had this with one of your children or have know a child like this? If so how long did it go on for before the doctors did anything? She has lost a lot of weight but is drinking lots. I would really appreciate any advice.

Thank you for your time,

Vicky

several times a day, but each time with very little amount of feaces, that’s also very watery. i can give her anti-diarrhea medicine, but i have a doubt. even though purging, the amount of the defecation is so little, which means there’s a lot of feaces still being stored in her body. if i give her the medicine, she’ll stop pa*sing motion and it will store even more ‘stuff’ in her body rather than pa*sing it out. but if i dont give medicine, she goes to toilet so often and loses so much of water and she looks exhausted. what should i do?

and what could be the cause of this kind of diarrhea? she gets it about once in every two months. (i have IBS. is IBS hereditary?)

A question for my friend-She has a little boy that just turned a year old on March 9. He has white diarrhea,he’s had a fever, and is acting lethargic and is crying and seeming to be just grumpy and irritable. Has anyone else had a child with these symptoms, and what did it turn out to be? She’s waiting on a call back from her pediatrician, and has called the hospital nurse line and that’s all they’ll tell her to do. Any similiar experiences to share, any information?
All the hospital will tell her is to wait for the call from her pediatrician.
