Obtaining withheld training certificates from previous job?
ByI worked for over a year for my last job and attended many human services trainings (NCI, First Aid, Medication Administration, CPR, etc) but after each training, our CEO requested for the certificates to be sent to him. I need to obtain these certificates, but was told while I was working there that they are not given out because people were using them to go get other jobs. The training was company paid, but I’m told that doesn’t matter, they should still have to give them up. I’ve asked this question once before, but I only got one answer, and it wasn’t really.. Good. What should I do?

Request copies your personnel or training file under the open records act. Usually your request has to be in writing and the company is allowed to charge a small fee for copies and the time it takes someone to make those copies. They also have to answer your request within so many days (the answer can be that it will take them xx amount of days more to complete the request). The company can redact your personal information but since you are requesting your own record they really have no reason to. Search for Open Records act for your state on Yahoo Search.
