I am a 33 yr old guy. My doctor just put me on 25mg of Hydrochlorothiazide. One pill a day. I started taking yesterday. I have been monitoring my blood pressure constantly since. Its still way too high. Should I be concerned and call my physician or wait a few days for the medication to take effect.

High Blood Pressure at Young Age?

Posted by: Doctor | Comments (3)

I recently took my blood pressure and was absolutely shocked, I got a reading of 158/89. I bought an auto blood pressure monitor and have been taking it regularly, and still similar results.

I am a 17 year old boy, and weigh about 120 pounds. The biggest mystery to me is I am a cross country varsity runner with great times.

I am a doctor and have traditionally worked with BP instruments that measure BP from arm and not from wrist. If anyone has worked on these new wrist based BP monitors, then please tell me if they are accurate and reliable or not. If yes, what principle do they use for measurement?
The funda for measuring it is not in-line with heart but the arm is supposed to be at the level of the heart.

SO the person who does high maths can take a jump. Pressure, mind you, varies with height ;-)

I wanted to know if Karatkoff’s principle is applicable on wrist Sphygs or not coz i am not sure if it does obliterate radial artery completely and even if it does, ulnar artery will rush in more blood because it is un-obliterable.

Blood Pressure Help?

Posted by: Doctor | Comments (5)

I am in a Medical Assisting Program and we do our vitals everyday. This is my third month and I still havent gotten it down. We use manual Blood pressure monitors, not digital. A coupl,e of other people in my class feel, the same way. I want to get a digital one but thats not going to help me. Does anyone have any tips about taking blood pressure. Or does anyone know a website where i can go to watch a demonstration? Easy 10 points
