What are some long term problems a*sociated with heat exhaustion/dehydration and how can they be reversed?
ByMy wife over-did it doing yard work in the heat summer before last. She knew something was wrong, but just kept going and only drank coffee when she came in. After a few days, she got very sick. She hurt all over and could hardly do anything for the rest of the summer, which is totally out of character for her. She normally is a very energetic person who loves to garden and stay busy. She is better this summer, but still doesn’t feel she has completely recovered. She is taking potasium and plenty of other vitimans, and has committed to drinking more water, but can no longer stand to get in the heat when the sun is out–not even for a few minutes. She is very stubborn and doesn’t like to go to the doctor. For decades, her normal body temperature was approx 97.4, but since the heat exhaustion incident her body temperature fluctuates between 98.2 and 98.7. I have heard that when a person gets heat exhaustion, they never completely get over it. Is this true?

Don’t know if that is true or not. I do know that dehydration sneaks up on you and will alter how your body works with it. This happened to me when I was activated and sent overseas. I drank coffee like it was going out of style and eventually ended up on a gurney with an IV going to re-hydrate me. I would suggest that if she hasn’t been to a doctor as of yet you take her and have her looked at…………..been there done that!!!!

Im not too sure but i think you should take your wife for a checkup with your doctor. I had severe heat dehydration while fire fighting two years ago and have not had any effects since. Her sensitivities may have nothing to do with the heat exhaustion. Good luck
