Most planes for commercial travel have pressurised cabin, and have no effect on high blood pressure.

However, Your on death’s door and flight attendents frown on in flight cardiac arrest.

Consider it likely that you may have a heart attack or stroke soon. take your health seriously and can the crap about ” I have to get away”. Most of the world never get an opportunity to take a break.

Patients with Congestive Heart failure, Pulmonary edema, and preganacy may need some travel restriction, but again the cabin is presurized so likely ok.

Pulmonary embolism can occur in anybody in prolonged flights.

Blood pressure shouldn’t be an issue if you’re a pa*senger in a plane. If you’re flying the plane it’s a different matter. The cabins are pressurized, so the altitude itself will have no impact on your blood pressure. However, if you have a blood pressure related emergency at 30,000 feet, there’s little they can do for you. They can’t just call the paramedics and rush you to a hospital.

I would take your Dr’s advice. Not only because of what the paramedic above just mentioned, but also you have to take into consideration other factors besides the airplane ride itself.

Planes are pressurized to 8,000 feet, so you can breathe normally. But you do need to be aware that plane rides really dehydrates you because the air is really really dry.

Also the stress of flying these days. If you arrive at the airport and you’re flight is delayed or your baggage is mishandled, those things will raise your stress, thus your blood pressure.

Concentrate on lowering your BP, and your health in general.

Vacations are nice but your health much more important.

Sometimes vacations help improve one’s health and sanity, but you have to help yourself first (lower BP!!!)

Flying in itself should not be a problem, but stressful situations do come up while traveling sometimes, and you have to be able to deal with it. I know you can do it!

Good luck!
